November 20, 2002 – Los Angeles, CA -- Check this out: Johnny Marr, the most heroic of the still walking, talking and playing guitar heros, showed up to play completely unannounced at a Haven gig at Don Hill’s in New York during the CMJ convention. Granted, it was a poorly kept secret, but a secret nonetheless. Yet Don Hill’s has probably never been so suffocatingly packed (particularly at 7:00 in the evening) -- and by the next day everyone in New York was insisting that they’d been there and that they’d seen Johnny play. (You can tell a truly legendary event by the implausible amounts of people who maintain that THEY WERE THERE.) Of course, there’s more to the story – the more being that Johnny’s guitar skills were brilliantly on display, and EVERY SINGLE PERSON in actual attendance was utterly overwhelmed.

The above is a preamble to this: Johnny Marr + the Healers are going to tour. Announced, promoted, and in full glory. Their debut full-length CD, Boomslang, is on the horizon (the release date is February 4, and it’ll be on iMUSIC), and although you probably know all about Johnny Marr, the Healers include Zak Starkey (yes, that Zak Starkey) and Alonso Beavan (of Kula Shaker).

Johnny Marr + The Healers will be joined by mellowdrone, the much-buzzed-about new artist whose EP, a demonstration of intellectual property, will be released on ARTISTdirect Records in mid-January. Following the US dates, the Healers will head to Australia, where they’ll perform with Pearl Jam.
