JOHN DOE HITS THE ROAD TROUBADOR-STYLE WITH THE EXILE FOLLIES
Tour to Support New Release, Dim Stars, Bright Sky

Los Angeles - August 22, 2002 - Vanity Fair called John Doe's most recent record Dim Stars, Bright Sky "elegant and emotional." And while emotional is entirely explicable, given John's punk rock past - elegant is a little more complicated. Because with Dim Stars, Bright Sky, John has crafted a record that's equal parts beautiful and transcendent, and ultimately true to who he's become. The emotion that fueled X fuels John's solo work, but it's expressed in a way that befits a man who's evolved since the days in which he was referred to as the "Godfather of Punk."

On the 18th of September, in Atlanta, Georgia, John Doe will kick off the first date of the Exile Follies - a tour featuring John, Kristin Hersh, and and Grant Lee Phillips. (Each of the shows will rotate the running order.) John, who collaborated with folks such as Jakob Dylan, Aimee Mann, Juliana Hatfield, and Rhett Butler on the album, will be performing acoustically: A guitar, a voice, and John.

Doe - who's spent his fair share of time on the road, is inspired by the opportunity to perform with Hersh and Phillips. "The Exile Follies is aptly named," he says. "It's a songwriter tour with three singers from different musical genres with different voices and different approaches to songwriting with one common thread: we're all outsiders."
